Many authors do not realize the importance of reviews. Before purchasing, many readers will look for reviews when deciding on their next book. There are many opportunities for reviews, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, AP, New York Times, plus many online review sites and local media. Obviously some reviews carry more weight than others, a review in the New York Times obviously is more important than a review in a local paper with 50,000 distribution, but all reviews can lead to sales. Quotes from the reviewers, big or small media are very important to the author to use in their media kits, in the book, on the back cover, etc. They become part of the marketing of the book.
Dr. Molly Barrow just received a rave review in a small paper, Florida Weekly. Its a weekly publication with a modest circulation but the reviewer, Phil Jason, did a terrific job, he completely understood the concepts Dr. Barrow applied to her children's novel, Malia & Teacup, Awesome African Adventure, and created a beautiful review and summation of the book. Dr. Barrow has embedded self esteem lessons throughout the fun, adventure book and Mr. Jason became acutely aware of the message of the book and enjoyed the adventure as well. She will be able to use Mr. Jason's quotes in her marketing and the review will be circulated throughout the media to grab more attention for the book.
