Spending your summer vacation in a far off land with a very different culture has its challenges. Malia leaves her Midwestern home and travels to Kenya to spend the summer with her estranged father, in Dr. Molly Barrow's new and exciting adventure tale, Malia & Teacup - Awesome African Adventure. She receives a rude welcoming upon her arrival in Kenya from customs until she is rescued by her father's local Kenyan cook, which begins a true friendship with the tall African man and his family. Malia learns many customs, the local language and plays and dances with the local children. This is a far cry from her somewhat sheltered upbringing in a small Illinois town, where everyone for the most part looks the same. She learns to embrace the differences and her summer becomes an enriching experience because as she learns many life lessons, one she will always keep is her compassion and openness toward a different culture, and the true friends she met that summer in Africa. The book teaches Malia many lessons that help build her self esteem and find love, compassion and her own self worth. The book is for ages 9 and up and will be enjoyed by both boys and girls.
