Dr. Molly Barrow, author of Barringer Publishing's new release Malia & Teacup - Awesome African Adventure has based her story partially on her own experiences. Dr. Barrow, like her character, Malia is from a small town in Illinois. And like her character the very curious Malia, Dr. Barrow visited her father in Kenya. Although the circumstances were quite different, Dr. Barrow visited her father who was working for the state department as an architect. He had built a very successful firm in Illinois, designing public schools. In the book Malia is reunited with her estranged father who is a mystery to her, is he a spy? Who does he work for? These questions and many others are answered in the book as Malia and her little dog face one mishap after another in this frolicking adventure. Dr. Barrow has embedded her messages of self esteem building throughout the book, just as she has explained in her practice as a clinical psychologist. How a child values themselves is the first line of defense in dangerous situations. Like Malia in the book, Dr. Barrow as a child faced many interesting situations traveling from Illinois to Africa, which she says helped build her character and self esteem. She says "high self esteem is psychological armor for children."
