Two books by Dr. Molly Barrow, both within the Malia & Teacup series will be among the very first books donated to the Vihiga Children's Home in Kenya. This African orphanage and school is home to 91 children, whose parents have died of aids or have been victims of brutal violence. The children range in age from 4-16 years. Much is happening at the orphanage and the associated award winning school. Construction on the new three story dormitory is nearing completion, as is a new water system, bringing in clean water. Lillian Tuttle, a Fulbright Scholar and graduate of Centre College is forming the new library for the students. She has chosen Dr. Barrow's two new books about a young girl who visits her father one summer in Kenya, because the books focus on building self esteem for the children. Dr. Barrow is confident that if all kids read her books, and build high self esteem they will remain safer from bullies, predators and abuse. She says high self esteem is psychological armor for children. Whether the children are from wealthy American families or from countries where poverty and tragedy are an everyday occurrence the building of their self esteem will make a huge difference in their lives. The two books Dr. Barrow is donating to the orphanage and school are, Malia & Teacup - Awesome African Adventure, for ages 9 and up, and
Malia & Teacup - Out on a Limb, for ages 7-9.
