The exposure of a television appearance for an author can contribute to book sales and notoriety. If the author can appear as an expert in their chosen field, whether its being a food expert or a psychologist, the appearance on a talk show can do great things for their career. Of course the ultimate talk show for an author is Oprah, but there are many other shows which offer very nice visibility. Many authors begin on local or regional talk shows, discussing their book and its topic and work their way up to the larger national formats. If the author has a tape made of the local show, it is very smart to include that in the package being sent to the larger markets, including the Oprah caliber shows.
Dr. Molly Barrow, author of Malia & Teacup - Awesome African Adventure, who was just featured on Fox4 in a regional market, is going to springboard that appearance into larger markets, by sending out her media kit, including her bio, questions the interviewer may want to ask, press release, the book and a dvd. With this package the recipient should have all questions answered whether or not Dr. Barrow will be a good guest. The dvd provides them with actual footage showing how Dr. Barrow looks in front of the camera and how she reacts to the questions.
