Why Do People Write Books Anyway

Why do they? It is an interesting question, and one I put to my authors. Why did you just spend four years of your life, at the computer, isolated from family and friends to put 100,000 words on paper in a logical manner and sign your name to it? Do you believe you have something important to say? Did you just have a bunch of time and tired of reality shows on television? Is it an ego boost...Hey, I am a published author, look at me? Is it a credibility issue for one's profession or speaking engagements? What I have found is yes, all of the above are reasons people write books, and there are more. How about fame and fortune? Of course the odds are astronomical but I think every writer believes he or she is the next Dan Brown, Stephen King or JK Rowling. The truth is someone has to be, so why not them. Every reason mentioned above is a legitimate reason to pen a book. Everyone does have a story and something to say. We know this from casual conversation with friends, neighbors and even strangers. Will it sell and make millions, or even thousands? Everyone knows the odds are not in their favor, but the act of writing is an honorable chore and passion. And that is the key, enjoy it. Write for the sheer pleasure of telling a story or trying to help, based on the knowledge of your experiences.
