For an author, winning an award or prize can be a game breaker. Of course it depends on the prize or award, but after winning an author can always represent themselves as an award winning author. There are many types of awards, and all authors should make every attempt to qualify and submit their books. It's a process that can get costly, sending out copies to the many opportunities out there, but can be very awarding indeed. There are all types of awards, some extremely prestigious, and others more local and obviously they do not carry the weight of a major national award.
Can awards sell books? Of course. Winning a major award can qualify you to have your books placed in the large book stores, and promoting your awards on Amazon and Barnes & Noble online, can give the book the credibility readers are looking for. Can just being nominated for an award be important? Definitely. For instance Dr. Molly Barrow's two new children's books, from the Malia & Teacup series have been nominated for the prestigious Sunshine State Young Reader's Award Program, a reading motivation program for grades 3 through 8. Just being selected as a finalist for the 2010 decision is a great honor, and Dr. Barrow should use that recognition in her marketing efforts. If she is selected as a recipient of the award obviously that will not only bring her further recognition and exposure, but sales of the books will certainly take a huge leap. There are a quite a few award programs available, so select wisely, pick out the ones that focus on your genre and go for it.
Barringer Publishing has launched two new exciting children's books by Dr. Molly Barrow. The reviews are coming in - "These are the kinds of books that parents and teachers as well as kids, have been seeking."
